Gas to Health Initiative (GTHI) has donated free cooking gas stoves to local food vendors in Awka, Anambra State.
This was done during an awareness campaign organized by GTHI to sensitize the masses on the safe-use and benefits of liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas) at the Anambra State 2016 trade fair held in Awka.
The beneficiaries were trained on the safe-use and benefits of liquefied petroleum gas and were also given the LP Gas cooking gadgets free of charge.
According to the Secretary Gas to Health Initiative’s Board of Trustees, Engr. (Mrs.) Betty Ugona, the donation of free cooking gas stoves to local food vendors is a way of demonstrating the benefits of cooking with cleaner energy as against the use of unhealthy cooking fuels like firewood.
She further stressed that cooking with unhealthy fuels pollutes the environment and also endangers the health of the users.
In her words, “…the one who cooks with unhealthy fuel feels the brunt while the environment feels the heat…”
As a non-governmental organization, GTHI is focused on promoting the growth of liquefied petroleum gas consumption in Nigeria through awareness creation and grassroots empowerment.
It was gathered that seventy liquefied petroleum gas cookstoves of various calibrations were distributed to beneficiaries at the trade fair.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to GTHI for the opportunity given to them to cook with a cleaner and efficient energy –LP Gas.
